Twitter suspends Cuban dictatorship propaganda accounts

Several Twitter accounts used by the communist Castro dictatorship to spread propaganda and smear the pro-democracy opposition and human rights activists were suspended by Twitter Thursday.

Via ADN Cuba (my translation):

On Thursday, Twitter suspended the official account for the Castro regime program Con Filo, the state-run website Cubadetate reported.

The report also mentions Twitter suspended the accounts of the Cuadrando la Caja [Squaring the Box] program and the Cuba Joven [Young Cuba] project, all affiliated with the regime in Havana.

Con Filo confirmed the suspension of their account on Facebook.

“We caught what’s been going around. Twitter has suspended the Con Filo account. It took them a while to get around to it. Could it be they’re scared of us?” they wrote.

It’s highly unlikely this suspension has much of anything to do with Elon Musk taking over Twitter on Thursday. This action has probably been in the works for a while now. However, whether intentional or not, the suspension of a brutally repressive and murderous regime’s propaganda accounts used to spread lies and smear innocent people is a good start for the Twitter-Musk era.
