Oppositionist Oscar Elias Biscet arrested on the tenth anniversary of the Emilia Project.
The Cuban we opponent and former political prisoner Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet was arrested this Monday morning, when he was leaving his house located in the 10 de Octubre municipality, in Havana, denounced his wife Elsa Morejon.
According to neighbors, they arrested him on Milagros and 8th streets, and two patrol cars and plainclothes policemen were waiting for him. With an anguished voice, his wife said, “I don’t know where he is, I haven’t heard from him”. She believes that the reason for the arrest is that this Monday marks the tenth anniversary of the Emilia Project, founded on January 9. 2013, and named in honor of Emilia Teurbe Tolon, the Cuban woman exiled for political reasons.
The political project was created, according to the founding text, with the purpose of conquering “the fundamental human rights, democracy and freedom of the Cuban people.”
Imprisoned during the Cuba’s Black Spring and sentenced to 25 years in prison. In 2007 Biscet was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President George W. Bush, the highest civilian award in the United States. He was released in 2011 on “extra criminal leave.”
