Photos of the Day: Cubana de Aviacion’s ‘Tropicana Special’ during the 1950s

Before the 1959 communist revolution destroyed everything in Cuba, the island’s national airline had a “Tropicana Special” flight between Miami and Havana, where Tropicana Cabaret dancers entertained the passengers on the flight across the Florida Straits.

Via Vintage Cuba (my translation):

Ana Gloria and Rolando putting on the Tropicana Special show on a Cubana de Aviacion flight. The Tropicana Special was a flight between Miami and Havana where tourists could enjoy a show on the plane performed by the Tropicana Cabaret dancers. Once they arrived in Havana, they would attend a show at the Tropicana Cabaret and spend one night in a hotel.

  1. Pre-1959 pictures of Cuba are practically always sad, no matter what their subject, because they almost always remind one of what was lost, needlessly and in exchange for worse than nothing.

    • So very true.

I recall many older Americans telling me how marvelous Havana was and how much they enjoyed vacationing there in the 1950’s.
There are now few alive that remember Havana in its glory days.
Thanks Fidel history will remember all you did for Cuba.
