Here’s another great achievement of Cuba’s socialist revolution, where corruption, mismanagement, and incompetence in 2022 led to the starvation deaths of more than 22,000 heads of cattle. Despite the island’s rich natural resources and year-round farming, corruption and ineptitude has forced Cuba to import the majority of its food.
Villa Clara lost 22,541 head of cattle due to malnutrition in 2022
The province of Villa Clara lost more than 22,000 head of cattle last year due to the lack of animal feed, the Cuban News Agency (ACN) reported on Wednesday.
Specialists with the Department of Animal Health (DSA) in that province located in the center of the country told the state-run news agency that the number of deaths of cattle rose to 22,541, which is 2,077 more than in 2021.
The increase in cattle mortality mostly affected calves in the 2 to three-year-old range, with 6,492 deaths, 782 more than the previous year.
Maikel Madrigal Hernandez, the top epizootiology specialist at the DSA, told ACN there were deficiencies in the feed programs due to the lack of fuel and transportation. They were unable to deliver the harvest designated for animal feed, which led to the deaths of more animals.
