Photo of the Day: Poetic justice at Havana’s old Hilton Hotel

Some letters have fallen off from the “Habana Libre” hotel in Havana, which was stolen from the Hilton Hotel chain and where Fidel Castro lived for many months in the early days of his reign as King of Cuba.

By coincidence or Divine Providence, the sign on the hotel’s rooftop now reads “na libre”, which in Cuban-accented Spanish means “nothing free”, which can be understood as “there is no freedom here.”

  1. The whole thing is probably similarly run down. It defies belief that people would choose to vacation in a dump like Cuba when they have clearly better options.
