Via The Himalayan:

KATHMANDU, MAY 17 – Yandy Martinez Nunez has become the first climber from Cuba to successfully scale the world’s highest peak as over 100 climbers made it to the top of Mt Everest this morning.

According to Lakpa Sherpa, Managing Director at Ascent Himalayas, Yandy, a resilient climber hailing from Cuba but living in Iceland, has created history as the first Cuban to conquer the summit, accompanied by the exceptional IFMGA guide Pasang Tenzing Sherpa at around 10:45 am.

Yandy shows the world how Cubans reach incredible heights when they’re liberated from the chains of communism.
