Ay, Mami! Cuban-American Miami Mayor Francis Suarez is running for President of U.S.A.

From our Bureau of Crowded Political Races with some assistance from Presidential Candidates Who Are Instantly Loathed by the Leftist News Media

Big city mayors usually don’t run for the highest office in the land, but Suarez is not deterred by this fact. His landslide victories in Miami give him the confidence most mayors lack.

El Niuyortain’s sub-headline is full of dog-whistles: “Mr. Suarez, a 45-year-old Cuban American elected overwhelmingly as mayor of Miami, is presenting himself as a fresh Republican face but faces allegations of influence peddling.”

See how many dog whistles you can spot in that sentence.

Then, in reference to his Political Action Committee, the NYT pulls out more dog whistles: “Its first ad — which opens with a sarcastic “warning” screen reading, “This video contains graphic content that liberals may find disturbing” — shows footage of violent crime and a burning police car, calling this “Joe Biden’s America” and promoting Miami’s declining violent crime rate under Mr. Suarez.

Ah, his campaign is going to be so much for journalists at El Niuyortain.

The article in The Hill is more restrained

Miami Mayor Francis Suarez (R) formally announced on Thursday he is running for president in 2024.

“I’m going to run for president,” Suarez says in a video posted online. “I’m going to run for your children and mine. Let’s give them the future they deserve. It’s time to take things into our own hands. It’s time to get things started.”

“America’s so-called leaders confuse being loud with actually leading,” he added. “All Washington wants to do is fight with each other instead of fighting for the people that put them in office.”

The video comes less than a day after Suarez filed to run for president with the Federal Election Commission. On Wednesday, pro-Suarez super PAC known as SOS America, launched a six-figure digital ad buy in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

Suarez is the third Florida resident to join the growing Republican primary, including Trump and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has trailed in second place in most polling. He is also the first Hispanic candidate to jump into the GOP field this cycle, representing a critical constituency for the party.

But the Miami mayor faces an uphill climb to the nomination, given the current state of the polls and his relatively low national name recognition.

In order to qualify for the first Republican debate in August, Suarez will need to poll at a minimum of 1 percent in three national polls and garner a minimum of 40,000 unique donors and at least 200 unique donors from 20 or more states and territories.

  1. Unfortunately, Francis Suarez is a dimwit and the epitome of a “postalita”. This is guy who criticized Governor DeSantis for prohibiting him from locking down Miami longer and harder. He closed beaches, marinas and boat ramps to mitigate a respiratory virus that spreads indoors. He has zero constituency to run for president and I doubt most Miami residents could even name their mayor. What’s he really up to?

    • He may just be up to raise his profile so he can later run for something like governor. He knows he has zero chance to be the Republican nominee. So yes, he’s an embarrassment.

  2. I wish that Francis Suarez wouldn’t run for president. He makes us [Cuban Americans] look bad. Have you seen his interview with George Stephanopoulos? It was bad. as someone in the comments section said:

He so blew his interview. If his goal was to be above the sensational politics, he should simply say, “That’s for the judge and jury to decide!” Stop that line of questions in it’s tracks. Instead he wavered and paused. He may be the mayor of a large city, but he’s not yet ready for the national stage. Will he even make it to the debate stage? I doubt it.
