Nearly 300 acts of repression in Cuba during the month of June

The communist Castro dictatorship kicked off the Summer of 2023 with 291 acts of repression in the month of June, keeping its 64-year streak of violence and brutality alive. This is socialism in action.

OCDH registers nearly 300 acts of repression by the regime against the population during June

The Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) recorded at least 291 acts of repression against the island’s population by the Castro dictatorship during the recently concluded month of June.

According to the OCDH’s monthly report, 80 of these actions were arbitrary detentions, including that of university professor Alina Bárbara López. The professor has been harassed by the regime in recent months due to her anti-government criticisms and her willingness to peacefully demand a change in Cuba.

In June, the Cuban authorities also prohibited Alina Bárbara López from attending an annual event organized by the Association for the Study of the Cuban Economy, based in the United States. When she went to renew her passport, she was informed her travel was restricted for reasons of public interest.

In its report, the OCDH also denounced the arrest of United Anti-totalitarian Forum (FANTU) leader Guillermo “Coco” Fariñas. He has been on a hunger strike for a week demanding the unconditional release of all political prisoners, an end to the Agreement of Cooperation and Political Dialogue between the regime of the island and the European Union, and the withdrawal of alleged Chinese espionage bases from the island.

Among other acts of aggression (211) reported by the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights are abuses in the island’s prisons, targeting both political and common prisoners. It also includes the harassment of activists who have been besieged, interrogated, and/or brought to trial. Some have also been prohibited from leaving the country during the month of June.

The organization, based in Madrid, pointed out that all this repression is happening “amid a dangerous move by the Cuban regime towards Russia. Cuba has offered verbal support in international forums for the invasion in Ukraine, exchange of intelligence information, and collaboration between the armed forces of both countries, without any voices of opposition from the European Union and the rest of the international community.”
