Bootlicking minor Cuban oligarchs scramble to find new titles for Fidel Castro in order to increase their own prestige

The first “discoverer” and the fifth

This bit of news is so absolutely inane and childish, it hardly deserves attention. But, oh, the fact that it is being paid a lot of attention by Castro, Inc. means that this nauseating bit of idolatry and self-promotion is highly indicative of the benighted culture in which Cuba’s elites live, move, and have their being.

This campaign to have Fifo declared the “fifth discoverer of Cuba” is so utterly infantile and meaningless that it can actually leave one speechless. For starters, the very notion of a “discoverer” runs absolutely against the grain of current leftist ideology in the capitalist world and would be considered offensive in woke culture, for in such circles European “discoverers” didn’t really “discover” anything. The Natives needed no “discovering,” much less the genocide that followed European colonization of their lands.

If it weren’t so pathetically sad, and so totally oblivious of leftist ideology in the capitalist world, this latest move by minor Castronoid oligarchs might seem hilarious. Unfortunately, this latest bit of Castrophillic inanity reveals far too much about the frightening mentality of the faux “intellectuals” and ignorant oligarchs who rule Cuba. Even worse, their infantile inanity, in turn, is adored throughout Latrine America.

Loosely translated from Diario de Cuba

The offices of the historical curators of Matanzas, Guantánamo and Baracoa provinces have launched a joint proposal to declare Fidel Castro the fifth discoverer of Cuba, in the middle of the official celebrations for the 97th anniversary of his birth, on August 13.

According to a note from the Office of the Conservator of the city of Matanzas, in charge of preserving the heritage of that western city, the proposal was in charge of Leonel Pérez Orozco, who directs that local office. The official also proposed declaring the former historian of Havana, Eusebio Leal, as the sixth discoverer.

The petition has witnesses such as Javier Leal, son of Eusebio Leal, who is the owner of the Spain-based travel company OnlineTours to Cuba, and whose ties to the Havana regime are so close that one of its offices is located in the same building that the General Consulate of the Republic of Cuba occupies in Barcelona.

If the petition is approved, the Cuban dictator would receive that title post mortem after the considered first discoverer, Christopher Columbus; the scientist and explorer Alejandro de Humboldt; the ethnologist Fernando Ortiz, and the archaeologist and chief of Castro’s bodyguard, Antonio Núñez Jiménez.

The Facebook wall of the National Union of Historians of Cuba (UNHIC) in Guantánamo indicated in a publication that the idea was launched by Orozco and taken as an agreement within the framework of the Centennial Workshop of Dr. Antonio Núñez Jiménez, held in that province.

According to the official entity, the idea consisted of “proposing to the country’s authorities, the category of fifth discoverer of Cuba to Fidel Castro, for his contribution to the development of a new sovereign and just Cuba, and to Eusebio Leal Spengler as sixth discoverer, for its work to preserve the nation’s historical and cultural patrimony”.

  1. Yes, it’s cringeworthy, and then some, but just typical abject guataquería (brown-nosing), motivated by getting some sort of gain. The people behind it are not legitimate, so naturally their actions reflect that.

These are not even oligarchs but minor provincial minions. In other words, huevitos que quieren sal.

  2. Part of the problem here is a kind of desperate flailing to prop up the discredited and indisputably failed “revolution,” which has nothing to show for itself except the same old slogans and hollow propaganda. The figure of Fidel Castro, as the supreme deity of the whole apparatus, is thus absurdly inflated even more.
