The first major Cuban diaspora was at the end of the 19th century while Cuba was still a Spanish colony. Jose Martin along with many others settled in Tampa. It was a small migration compared to what happened in Miami after 1959. Nevertheless, now 130 years later the descendant of those Cubans left their mark on the culture of Tampa and are called Tampeno. The folks in Los Angeles called themselves Angelenos. I wonder what Cubans in Miami will be called after another 70 years?
