September 8th is the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and also the day Cubans celebrate their Patron Saint, La Virgen de la Caridad del Cobre. Many of us grew up with an image like this in our homes. It was a daily reminder that our Lady of Charity is looking out for us, especially in times of trouble. Whether you’re religious or not, La Virgen is part of our Cuban culture, our lives, and our souls.
