I’m almost too cynical to care about this sort of thing. It’s common as dirt, and what we should do is to learn from it–learn that, by and large, the world doesn’t give a shit about Cuba and never will.
In a way, it’s simple: “doing” Cuba is very safe PR-wise, since it will only offend those people, and even the pope has done that repeatedly. In other words, there are no PC issues to worry about.
However, I would not call her manipulated, which assumes she has no clue. I’d call her collaborationist.
