Good news! You’re getting a pay bonus and the amount is based on your years of service. Aaaah, but here’s the bad news: The bonus doesn’t amount to much. You’ll still be grossly underpaid.

Aaaaah, the joy of socialist economic incentives. Castro, Inc. is admitting that its medical personnel are underpaid and that it fears mass defections during the current migration tsunami, which has already syphoned off a substantial number of doctors and nurses.

The pay raise is in the increasingly useless Cuban Peso [Current Dollar equivalents added in chart below]

Cuba has approved salary measures to incentivize workers in the national health system to stay in their jobs. These measures include paying an additional monthly amount for years of service. Pursuant to Ministry of Labor and Social Security Resolution No. 21/2023:

– Doctors, dentists, nurses, psychologists, technologists and other health professionals and technicians working in the sector included in the budget of the National Health System will receive an additional monthly payment for their years of service. After 30 years of service, they will receive a raise of 400 pesos every two years. The entire period of work in the profession is counted, whether it is continuous or not.
