Like food, basic items, and medicine, condoms are not restricted by U.S. sanctions on the Castro dictatorship. But that doesn’t stop the Cuban regime from shifting the blame away from its own corruption and incompetence. And for those who believe removing sanctions would take away an excuse for the Castro dictatorship’s failures, all you need to do is inform yourself about the regime, and you will learn it has a long list of excuses to take its place.
‘Blockade’ blamed for shortage of condoms in Cuba
The Cuban regime has once again shielded itself behind the U.S. “blockade” to justify the shortage of condoms on the island.
According to an article from the Cuban News Agency (ACN), the Cuba Office of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) was unable to acquire a complete batch of condoms for the Ministry of Public Health due to a lack of suppliers, blamed on the “blockade.”
“Despite our efforts, there were difficulties in finding sellers due to the measures of the U.S. government blockade,” stated Marisol Alfonso de Armas, the official representative of the UNFPA, a United Nations organization. However, the UNFPA did not specify in which countries they sought sellers.
Nevertheless, in a meeting held at the Hotel Sevilla Habana, UNFPA members in Cuba described the financial execution of resources as “positive,” reaching 95%.
According to the ACN note, they mentioned strengthening professional capacities and establishing alliances and services, including condoms, contraceptives, intrauterine devices, delivery room clothing, sheets and towels, and support to compensate for the damage caused by Hurricane Ian.
This self-congratulation by representatives of the healthcare system contradicts the overall situation on the island and what they have expressed about the impediment to purchasing condoms.
Without condoms in Cuba, there is an increase in diseases and teenage pregnancies.
Last year, there was an alarming shortage of contraceptives throughout Cuba. This situation led—and continues to lead—to an increase in sexually transmitted diseases, including syphilis and the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It also contributes to the rise in unwanted pregnancies and the risk of infertility, along with issues affecting women’s reproductive health.
Last year, health system officials, while warning about the increase in HIV cases and the lack of contraceptives to curb infections, advocated for pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent virus transmission.
Without disclosing the UNFPA budget for Cuba or how much the regime invests in the purchase or internal production financing of condoms, the blockade once again becomes the ideal argument to shield itself from criticism and distance itself from the complex health situation in the country.
You know, the Castronoids need to be a little more creative in their lies, because the “blockade” canard is very old and very tired, and I seriously doubt most people in Cuba believe it.
And yes, there will always be an excuse, because there MUST be one, or several, since the regime CANNOT admit the truth. The dictatorship MUST lie, as it always has, since the entire “revolution” is based on lies.
