Desperate and hungry Cubans chase trucks filled with food down the street

Socialism not only strips you of your rights and your freedom, but also your dignity. Desperate for food, Cubans have been reduced to chasing trucks for a morsel of food like hungry stray dogs. Hunger and humiliation is not a bug but a feature of socialism, designed specifically to turn humans into animals that can be put on a leash and controlled with treats.

Cubans chase food truck at a food fair in Santiago de Cuba

Amid the serious food crisis on the island, dozens of residents of Santiago de Cuba were seen chasing several food trucks that would participate in an agricultural fair.

A video published by the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights indicates that the incident occurred last Saturday.

The residents who attended the fair “chased closely for blocks and formed long lines, the trucks that would sell vegetables,” according to the post on X.

In October, similar images of a group of Cubans chasing a food truck in Santiago de Cuba highlighted the serious crisis on the island, where it is increasingly difficult for some sectors to bring food to their homes.

“It’s not Africa, nor Haiti, this is socialist Cuba that has the Cuban people living in absolute poverty. Cubans run after a truck not knowing if it carries food,” denounced the news portal Cubanos por el Mundo on Instagram at that time.

In March, similar images showed dozens of people running after a truck allegedly carrying rice for sale.

Also, at the end of February, a huge crowd gathered near the 3rd and 70 market in the Miramar neighborhood of Havana, ran wildly when the store opened its doors to try to buy a hot dog.

These cases show that the crisis in Cuba continues year after year invariably, while the regime continues to ask the population for “creative resistance.”

  1. “It’s not Africa, nor Haiti, this is socialist Cuba that has the Cuban people living in absolute poverty.”

This will sound terribly racists but when I visited Cuba back in the late 90’s I was shocked at the level of poverty in a country full of European descendants. It was my first view into a communist country. They say that even East Germany looked terrible. Can you imagine the smart, clean, intelligent, hard working Germans living in poverty? Oh, the wonders of communism.

I have always said that this is the main appeal to visiting Cuba. It is like a freak show. So very odd. The problem is that things are so bad YOU become part of the freak show with the associated travel nightmares. Traveling to Cuba is like adventure travel. Cuba falls into the same category as vacations to Antarctica, Borneo or more like North Korea (where the dangers come from the two legged apex predators).
