Nine Members of National Ballet of Cuba defect in Puerto Rico

From our Bureau of Ungrateful Selfish Wretches Who Don’t Appreciate Socialist Totalitarianism

What’s wrong with these youngsters? They were all “promising” stars, and they owe everything to Castro, Inc. Such ingratitude is hard to comprehend. How could they turn their backs on the “Revolution”? How could they not desire to keep dancing for their slaveowners till they dropped dead?

Loosely translated from Cubanos Por El Mundo

At least nine dancers from the National Ballet of Cuba escaped in the last few hours during a tour they are doing in Puerto Rico.

This was stated by sources from the independent newspaper CubaNet, who specified that the dancers who escaped are “promising ballet figures.”

“Several young and promising figures stayed; However, the main figures changed,” the Cuban National Ballet source told CubaNet about the event, who also added that the final destination of these dancers would be the United States.

It is important to mention that the Cuban ballet delegation, which is directed by Viengsay Valdés, was in Santurce, Puerto Rico, presenting the Don Quixote ballet suite and the Carmen ballet, on March 1 and 2, at the Center of Fine Arts “Luis A. Ferré”.

Led by the director and prima ballerina Viengsay Valdés, the cast was made up of leading figures Sadaise Arencibia, Anette Delgado, Dani Hernández, Grettel Morejón and Yankiel Vázquez. It also included other artists such as Chavela Riera, Ányelo Montero, María Luisa Márquez, Estefanía Hernández, Gabriela Druyet, Jorge Guerra, Luis Fernández, as well as soloists and the corps de ballet.

It is worth remembering that this is not the first time that a situation similar to this has occurred with the National Ballet of Cuba in Puerto Rico, since in 2014 the escape of six members of that delegation who later ended up living in Miami was reported.

At that time, even the Castro dictatorship itself, through its propaganda media, confirmed the fact because the news had a lot of impact internationally.

  1. It’s ironic that the only reason ballet did not go extinct in “revolutionary’ Cuba is that, through the opportunistic complicity of Alicia Alonso, it became a propaganda tool for the regime.

Alonso essentially made a deal with the devil; it was the only way she could remain an active star and powerful diva long past what would normally have been the end of her career.
