How’s this for inclusion, diversity, equity, and social justice? In Cuba absolutely everyone is equally in danger when venturing out on the street. No discrimination or bigotry whatsoever. Even tourists are in peril if they happen to stray one block from their apartheid hotel.
Falling debris from a collapsed overhang and a balcony injured a young woman last night. Castro, Inc.’s Ministry of Truth has nothing to say about this incident. The condition of the injured passerby is not known. The fate of the families living in the building is not known either, but they have been evacuated.

On Thursday night in Havana, another tragic collapse occurred, this time at the intersection of Gervasio and San Lázaro streets in the Centro Habana neighborhood.
Journalist Mario J. Pentón shared images of the incident, describing how “the entire overhang collapsed, taking down all the balconies on the first floor. So far, they have taken a girl who was passing by at that moment in a car, and the debris fell on top of her.”
No further details have been found about the injured person, but in the widely circulated video on social media, people can be seen evacuating the affected building, with visible lights on the second floor, from where the balcony collapsed.
This incident once again highlights the precarious conditions in which many Cubans live, with poorly constructed buildings posing a constant danger to residents.
At the time of writing this note, no official media in Havana has reported on the incident. This lack of coverage raises questions about whether building collapses and balcony failures in the Cuban capital are so common that they are no longer considered newsworthy.
In Mario J. Pentón’s post, many people left comments stating that just as balconies collapse, Cuba as a whole is collapsing.
“The silent bombardment of time and the ineptitude of communist complicity are destroying Our Homeland. The tyranny entrenched in its sickening selfishness, and with the infinite greed that characterizes it, cannot process the idea that they have already lost the game”; “Cuba is crumbling, just like us, the people, there are no medicines or food, and as for housing… we can already judge with so many collapses. God, all merciful, put your hand over this island and cover us with your Sacred Mantle,” were some of the opinions expressed.
