We remember Rosemary Clooney, who was born in Maysville, Kentucky, on this day in 1928. She died in 2002. She was a hugely popular singer in the 1950s, including recording “Sway” from an LP with Perez Prado.
It was another example of the influence of Perez-Prado and the Cuban sound on pop music of that time. She joined Bing Crosby in “White Christmas,” the classic holiday movie and song. Another one of her hits was “Mambo italiano.”
For the younger generation, she is known as the aunt of George Clooney.
She married Jose Ferrer twice.
