Oropouche virus detected in Italy, imported by traveler to Cuba

The U.S. is not the only country from which diaspora Yo-Yos shuttle back and forth to Cuba. Europe has its share of them, too. One such Yo-Yo has just brought Oropouche to Italy. This is yet another sign that this epidemic is spiraling out of control in Castrogonia. This means that any community in the world that sends tourists and Yo-Yos to Castrogonia is at risk of being infected by Dengue or Oropouche, thanks to Castro, Inc., apartheid tourists, and Yo-Yos. Watch out South Florida, home to the highest concentration of Yo-Yos on planet Earth.

Loosely translated from Marti Noticias:

An Italian citizen who traveled to Ciego de Ávila, in central Cuba, last May to visit her family contracted the Oropouche virus and returned to her country ill, according to the iO Foundation, which specializes in Global Health.

Upon her return to Italy, the 26-year-old patient exhibited symptoms including diarrhea, general malaise, high fever, severe headache, nausea, joint pain, and retro-orbital pain, the organization detailed. The iO Foundation develops projects in the areas of infectious diseases and travel medicine.

Although dengue was initially suspected, rapid tests for the disease were negative. Blood and urine tests for dengue, Zika, and Chikungunya viruses were also negative, the report states.

According to the iO Foundation, the patient mentioned that “her relatives in Cuba experienced similar symptoms, where there is currently an outbreak of Oropouche virus infection,” which led to a specific diagnostic test for this virus, confirming the infection.

Health authorities in Ciego de Ávila have not reported specific cases of Oropouche in the area, but the state health agency Prosalud has been informing about arbovirus prevention efforts in communities on its Facebook page since early June.

An Italian press report dated June 14th states that the Department of Infectious, Tropical Diseases and Microbiology of the Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare (IRCCS) Sacro Cuore Don Calabria in Negrar, Verona, diagnosed “the first case of Oropouche fever in Europe, in a patient with a recent travel history to the tropical Caribbean region.”

The case, detailed by La Repubblica, was communicated to Italian health authorities and international information and monitoring services. “Since the last epidemiological update, between the end of 2023 and 2024, more than 5,000 cases of Oropouche fever have been recorded in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, and Peru, and recently also in Cuba,” Federico Giovanni Gobbi, director of IRCCS, told the local newspaper.

The first cases of Oropouche in Cuba were detected at the end of May in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba and Cienfuegos. According to reports from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), the virus may have spread to the province of Mayabeque in western Cuba. Independent media reports also place it in Villa Clara and some neighborhoods in Havana.
