Over 20 Cuban athletes will be representing other nations at the 2024 Olympics in Paris

Some 21 Cuban athletes who defected from the communist Castro dictatorship will be competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris representing other nations. Thirteen countries will enjoy the talents of Cubans who managed to escape slavery to the socialist regime in Havana to compete as free individuals.

Via CiberCuba (my translation):

A total of 21 Cuban athletes will represent other delegations at the Paris 2024 Olympics, reflecting the unstoppable exodus of athletes in recent years.

In the end, thirteen nations are benefiting from the talent of those born on the island, while two athletes were selected to join the Refugee Team: canoeist Fernando Dayán Jorge and weightlifter Ramiro Mora.

Spain’s delegation includes three figures aiming for medals: triple jumper Jordan Díaz, javelin thrower Yulenmis Aguilar, and boxer Enmanuel Reyes, who might face off again against the stellar Julio César la Cruz in search of “revenge” after his defeat in Tokyo 2020.

Turkey, Puerto Rico, Italy, and Chile each have two athletes. Azerbaijan, Belgium, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, the United States, Poland, and Portugal each have one. In terms of sports, athletics (4), boxing (3), wrestling (3), volleyball (3), and judo (2) are the most represented.

The large number of Cubans who will not be representing the Castro dictatorship in these Olympic games highlights the growing exodus of athletes leaving communist Cuba.
