Russia could be preparing to install a permanent naval base in Cuba

A Russian military expert believes that Russia is working towards installing a permanent naval base in Cuba, taking us back to the dark days of the Cold War. Following in the footsteps of the Soviet leaders who mentored him, Vladimir Putin is apparently pining for the days when Russia could threaten to launch a missile attack or a military offensive against the U.S. from just 90 miles away.

With another fleet of Russian warships scheduled to arrive in Havana this Saturday, less than two months since the last ones were there, it certainly does seem like Putin is planning a vacation home for his military in communist Cuba.

Via Diario de Cuba (my translation):

The arrival of a new Russian war fleet in Cuba this weekend, the second in a month and a half, would be part of the Kremlin’s preparations for permanently deploying its naval assets on the island, according to a Russian military expert.

Alexander Sharkovsky indicated that “in Cuba, the base for Russian Armed Forces, both land and naval, is being recreated. If dry cargo ships are used, [nuclear] missiles can return there, as was the case in 1962.”

The Kremlin spokesperson, who frequently appears on Russian television, added that “since the United States intends to deploy its medium-range missiles in German territory, it means that our missiles should be somewhere near the United States. This is a very important strategic reserve for the security of the Russian Federation.”

Sharkovsky mentioned that Moscow would accelerate the dispatch of a large number of warships to Cuba if the White House goes ahead with deploying its missile systems in European countries. Washington has already announced plans to station long-range missiles in Germany by 2026, prompting the Kremlin to threaten a “military response.”

No one should forget that this very serious threat to U.S. national security is being made possible by Cuba’s communist Castro dictatorship. The same dictatorship Obama and Biden has coddled, and Kamala Harris would coddle as well.

  1. More reason to vote for Trump. I do believe Trump would force Russia to remove this base or these vessels one way or another.
