Today, supporters of totalitarianism celebrate Fidel Castro’s birth, and the cult of personality that the dictatorship claims does not exist is on display in Revolutionary Square this year.

Some commemorating Fidel Castro’s birthday, such as the Cuba Solidarity Campaign in the United Kingdom, assert that “For more than 65 years the Cuban Revolution has been an inspiration to people around the world for its achievements in health, education, internationalism and more. Hasta Siempre, Comandante.”

This brings up a thought-provoking exercise. What would have happened if the 65-year old communist dictatorship in Cuba had never come to be? If Fidel Castro had never been born? Let us look at Cuba’s pre-1959 and post-1959 and imagine “what might have been?”

  1. And you know why we got Fidel Castro? Because his father, a Spanish soldier who’d fought against Cuba’s independence on Cuban soil, was allowed to settle in Cuba, where he most unfortunately reproduced. Cuba should have imposed at least a 25 year moratorium on allowing any such person back in Cuba. But, Cubans were always very stupid regarding Spain and the Spanish. However, it is also possible that the guy lied about or covered up his military history and got away with it. Lying, after all, is a Castro characteristic.

  2. I don’t think that fidel castro’s perfidy comes via his father’s lineage, but rather his mothers. There were many hardworking Spaniards in Cuba and in fact, Spaniards made Cuba. It was the Spanish entrepreneur, that working class gallego and asturiano, that opened up thousands of businesses across the island that made Cuba different to the rest of the Caribbean. Look at Fidel Castro’s physiognomy [there is nothing iberocelt in that face]. Read up on Castro’s mother’s heritage.

    • All I know about Angel Castro suggests an SOB, and the photos I’ve seen of him all look like he was bad news. The mother no doubt had issues, but she looked more like a comemierda.

  3. I wonder if there had been no Castro, if that would change anything. There would also have to be no JFK who thwarted the Bay of Pigs.
    Russia wanted influence there and could have found another puppet, don’t you think?
