From our Bureau of Threat-Laden Promises with some assistance from our Bureau of Grossly Obese Prime Ministers Who Call on Starving People to Make Sacrifices
Ay, this hurts! Overfed PM Manuel “Barrigón” Marrero has just tried to cheer up the Cuban people by telling them that IF they make sacrifices and IF they do their utmost to keep the military junta in power and IF they stop complaining, then it will “only” take five years for the Cuban economy to improve. Of course, whatever kind of “recovery” he and his fellow oligarchs are imagining is bound to be minimal, given the communist/socialist economic policies that have been implementing for 65 years– which have ruined Cuba— and which they are hell-bent on keeping intact. Lord have mercy.
Loosely translated from ADN Cuba
Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz has assured that economic improvements will come in the next five years. However, these promises are contingent upon the steadfast defense of the principles of the Revolution, as he stated in a recent interview with Iranian television channel Hispan TV.
Marrero Cruz, who visited Tehran in July to attend the inauguration of Iranian President Masud Pezeshkian, used the opportunity to justify the Cuban government’s new economic policies. These measures, officially referred to as the “government program to correct distortions and reinvigorate the economy,” have been a subject of debate and skepticism both inside and outside the island.
The prime minister asserted that the government will implement “the necessary policies to strengthen the economy without risking the Revolution.”
According to Marrero, the goal is to advance steadily, though he warned that the path to recovery will be long and difficult. Despite the challenges, he expressed optimism about the possibility of economic improvement within a five-year timeframe, as long as revolutionary principles are upheld.
In his speech, Marrero emphasized the importance of resisting what he described as “cruel attacks on social media.” In his view, the defense of Cuban socialism is non-negotiable, and he is confident that the Cuban people will continue to support the government in this struggle, even if it involves significant sacrifices.
However, these promises for the future contrast with the daily reality faced by Cubans, who are enduring the worst shortages in decades.
Sounds familiar.
Another five year plan.
