From our Bureau of Socialist Sensibilities
Some might laugh at this statement because it’s so outrageous. But, unfortunately, it isn’t the least bit funny. It’s nothing but the darkest sort of black humor.
Abridged and loosely translated from Diario de Cuba
Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Cuban leader, was among the first to congratulate and recognize Nicolás Maduro as the winner of the July 28th elections in Venezuela. He has maintained his stance, claiming that Caracas is facing a “gross discrediting campaign” aimed at disguising another attempted coup.
Speaking virtually at the 11th Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP, an organization that includes some of the most authoritarian governments in Latin America, Díaz-Canel reaffirmed his support for Maduro after the “victory achieved on July 28th” and condemned the “uncivilized, violent, and fascist” behavior of the Venezuelan opposition.
Díaz-Canel emphasized the importance of solidarity in these times and acknowledged the dangers faced by the alliance created by Hugo Chávez and Fidel Castro, which he implied relies heavily on Caracas. He called for unity and firmness against imperialism and oligarchies, accusing them of seizing every opportunity to undermine the achievements and stability of popular-oriented forces.
He also condemned the calculated efforts by regional oligarchies, imperialism, media empires, and digital platforms against Venezuela, while avoiding any mention of the fraud allegations against Maduro and the National Electoral Council (CNE), which has yet to release the official election results a month after the vote.
Díaz-Canel expressed admiration for Maduro’s “serenity, lofty democratic sensibilities and peace-seeking” in responding to provocations, despite reports of over 20 deaths and more than 2,000 arrests following the peaceful protests that erupted after the elections. He concluded by expressing confidence in the Bolivarian and Chavista unity of the Venezuelan people, asserting that Venezuela, the homeland of Bolívar, Chávez, and Maduro, would continue to withstand all threats and pressures.
One of the benefits of being a leftist dictator is that you can say outrageous things routinely. It’s expected. Of course, it helps to have absolutely no shame, decency or scruples.
In this age when our Pravda press exists they can say outrageous things routinely and it is expected.
‘All the Dems at their convention expressed admiration for their chosen dictators’ democratic sensibilities.
The entire Dem convention was lies and Projection.
If America “chooses” those two, we will be Cuba in no time.
