One of the primary reasons the communist Castro dictatorship has been able to stay in power since the fall of the Soviet Union is the political support it receives from free nations in Europe. The European Union is a major financier of the Cuban regime, pouring cash into the coffers of the totalitarian dictatorship to ensure it can remain in power.
One Polish politician, Anna Fotyga, has had enough of the EU’s duplicity, where it claims to stand for freedom and human rights, yet continues to fund a regime that has systematically and brutally violated the human rights of Cubans and denied them freedom.
Via ADN Cuba (my translation):
Anna Fotyga, a member of the Solidarity union and former Member of the European Parliament for the Polish Law and Justice Party, once again urged the European Union (EU) to cease its financing of the Cuban regime.
In statements to the magazine The European Conservative, Fotyga emphasized that it is a mistake to finance the closest allies of Vladimir Putin, including Havana.
Fotyga underscored that Europe has sent over 300 million euros to Cuba ($330 million) and that currently, financing continues for 80 supposed projects that allocate 155 million euros ($175 million) to Cuban oppressors.
Regarding the European funds sent to Cuba, the politician stated: “Despite the well-known litany of human rights abuses, crimes, and now involvement in Putin’s invasion, this funding has not stopped. It is more than ridiculous that we are still financing Cuba. It must end, and it must end now.”
The EU’s claims of supporting freedom and human rights do not apply to democracy and human rights in Cuba. Instead, it has chosen to keep a brutally oppressive communist regime it considers an ally in power.
Gee, shouldn’t Spain, aka Mommy Dearest, be saying this, as in every chance it gets? Don’t ask.
