Cuba was once the sugar king of the world. Unfortunately, Castro, Inc. quickly destroyed the island’s sugar industry, and instead of exporting sugar, Cuba now needs to import it. Sugar rationing took a violent turn in eastern Cuba yesterday when a customer at a state-run store claimed that he had been shortchanged by the clerk who was selling sugar rations.

Hooh boy, tempers flared. The clerk even took out a baseball bat to defend himself form the irate customer. Someone captured the melee on video. See for yourself by clicking on the story link below

In a market in Santiago de Cuba, a confrontation took place where a worker threatened a customer with a bat after the customer complained about receiving less sugar than he was entitled to.

The incident, which reflects the misery and growing frustration over the scarcity of basic goods on the island, was captured on video by a witness who was in line.

The footage, shared by journalist Yosmany Mayeta, shows a man dressed in blue who, after a heated argument, grabs a bat with the intent to attack. However, the intervention of others prevented the situation from escalating further.

Although the video doesn’t clearly capture all the details of the fight, it does show the tense atmosphere, with buyers complaining about the delay in sales.

According to witnesses, in the end, the customer managed to get the sugar he was owed and left the scene.

The Cuban journalist used the incident to criticize the actions of local authorities, pointing out that inspectors who excessively fine small business owners should instead focus on sanctioning market employees who commit irregularities in food distribution.

“They can’t just be inspectors to bother self-employed workers; they should monitor state employees who abuse the population more closely,” he said forcefully.

Cubans reacted immediately to the incident, with some identifying the market in question and pointing out that the worker involved had previously had similar altercations with other customers.

This incident only highlights the poverty and misery prevalent on the island, to the point where two citizens end up fighting over a bit of sugar.

  1. It’s devolved to more or less survival mode. Everyone knows the government is worse than useless, but they’re afraid (for good reason) of openly attacking the regime, so they attack each other.

As for having to import sugar, that alone proves the regime is a failure, but as with all other evidence of that, which is everywhere and in full view, the usual suspects simply resort to willful blindness.
