From our Bureau of Suspicious Fires with some assistance from our Rumors of Sabotage Bureau
As featured in a previous post, an insurgency group that calls itself Hijos de Bayamo (Sons of Bayamo) is claiming responsibility for a recent rash of derailments and fires in Castrogonia. Today I received this message: “”Our people have realized that the only way to be free is by destroying the regime’s businesses.
The clandestine cells operating throughout the island of Cuba are working smartly, striking the regime where it hurts the most: in the pockets of the criminal drug traffickers who grow rich in the name of a false Cuban revolution. Fires and sabotage are increasing daily, and so are assaults on the damned tourists.” Thus far, Castro, Inc. is calling all of these disasters “accidents”.
Summary from Hijos the Bayamo email & Periodico Cubano
A large fire broke out in the warehouses of the ITH Varadero Marketing Company last Saturday, around 2:30 in the afternoon, according to a statement from the Provincial Government of Matanzas. The incident occurred on the road that connects Cárdenas with the Hicacos Peninsula, in the Santa Marta area.
The first units of the Fire Department, the Integrated Medical Emergency System and the Red Cross quickly arrived at the scene. Later, a commission of experts from the Ministry of the Interior (Minint) was deployed, which together with the authorities of the Communist Party and the local government are investigating whether it was an accident or sabotage. So far, no official statement has been issued on the causes of the incident.
According to the version of the official press, the damage to the facilities of the ITH Varadero Marketing Company was slight, but several items that serve as supplies to the hotel network of this important tourist destination were affected.
The ITH Varadero entity, located on this strategic highway, has as its main function to supply the hotel and non-hotel facilities of the famous Cuban resort, a key sector for tourism on the island.
Fires in the province of Matanzas have been frequent and devastating. The first occurred at the Matanzas Supertanker Base in August 2022. It was one of the worst industrial disasters in the history of Cuba. After lightning struck one of the fuel tanks, the flames spread rapidly, affecting three other tanks. The fire lasted almost a week and claimed the lives of 17 people. A year later, a memorial was erected in honor of the victims, although the faults that led to the catastrophe have not yet been clarified.
Months later, on October 6, 2022, the historic Hershey train station was consumed by flames. The fire, which some believe was intentional, completely destroyed the station, causing sadness among residents at the loss of this local symbol.
On May 1, 2023, an explosion of oil pumps at the industrial port of Matanzas caused a fire that was controlled by firefighters before spreading. Fortunately, there were no casualties, but the incident highlighted the vulnerability of the facility.
On June 14, 2024, the Antonio Guiteras thermoelectric plant, the largest electricity generator on the island, suffered a fire that forced the evacuation of workers. Although no casualties were reported, the plant was already facing a production shortfall, exacerbating the energy crisis in the country.
Well, Castro, Inc. will never give up power, which must be taken from it, and “dialogue” (even assuming there was any) is never going to solve the problem, which is totalitarian tyranny determined to rule forever.
