Czar Vlad the Invader’s Viceroy in Havana is boasting of his country’s largesse, letting the world know that Grand Putinia is rescuing Castrogonia from the starvation caused by the cruel “blockade” imposed by the U.S.A. How nice. In return Kuba pays with mercenaries for Czar Vlad’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Russian government is “cooperating very intensively” with United Nations organizations to assist Cuba amidst the island’s ongoing food crisis, according to Russian ambassador to Havana, Viktor Koronelli.

Moscow is supplying grains and facilitating the purchase of oil, fertilizers, and wheat, Koronelli told the state-run RIA Novosti, as reported by Oreanda-News. Through the World Food Programme, Russia has already sent several shipments of vegetable oil, grains, and chickpeas to Cuba.

Last week, the Cuban government announced a reduction in the size of bread sold through the rationing system due to a shortage of wheat flour.

Cuba blames its dire situation on the U.S. economic embargo, but Washington’s policy does not prohibit the import of food, medicines, or agricultural supplies, among other goods. The island imported nearly $350 million in food and other products from the U.S. in 2023, while humanitarian donations amounted to $36.6 million during the same period.

Koronelli stated that in addition to these humanitarian shipments, Russia is running a commercial project with a company from Novosibirsk, which supplies grain to a mill in the province of Cienfuegos to produce flour. The project, he claimed, has facilitated the delivery of more than 100,000 tons of grain to Cuba.

The ambassador highlighted the economic support Russia has provided to the communist-run island, especially as relations between the two Cold War-era allies have strengthened.

“This year, as in the past, Russia granted Cuba a $100 million loan. Of this loan, $80 million went to importing oil from Russia, $10 million to purchasing fertilizers from Russia, and another $10 million to buying wheat, which has already been delivered,” Koronelli detailed.

In return, the Cuban regime has expressed unconditional support for the Kremlin in its invasion of Ukraine and has reopened the doors to military and security collaboration, a move that activists, politicians, and experts see as a threat to regional stability.

Last week, Spain’s Popular Parliamentary Group in Congress presented a bill aimed at curbing Russia’s growing influence in Cuba and its impact on undermining democracies.

  1. Cubans as cannon fodder for Russia is an old story. Fidel Castro did it on a larger scale in Angola, and it sure as hell wasn’t to help Africans. But yes, he was smart enough to see its PR value and run with it.
