Cuba’s communist dictatorship is admitting there is an Oropouche Fever epidemic on the island, but as usual, its official figures are well below what many believe to be the true number of cases. Like Dengue, mosquito-borne Oropouche is spreading across the country at an alarming rate, spurred on by mountains of garbage piling up on the streets and raw sewage from broken pipes.
Via Diario de Cuba (my translation):
Cuba’s Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP) reported this Tuesday that the Island has accumulated nearly 12,000 suspected cases of the Oropouche virus, a very conservative figure amid the increasing unsanitary conditions of Cuban streets, the lack of medications, the deplorable state of hospitals, and the numerous other problems of blackouts and shortages that Cubans face. In this regard, in a meeting between scientists and leader Miguel Díaz-Canel, the Finlay Institute reported that it is studying “the viability or not of obtaining a vaccine for the prevention of the disease,” as reported by the state-run news website Cubadebate.
As the disease spreads on the Island, advancing as uncontrollably as dengue, the Director of Science and Technological Innovation at MINSAP, Ileana Morales Suárez, described the studies being conducted by Cuban scientists. However, due to the country’s conditions and its overall deterioration, which are ideal for the proliferation of Oropouche, they have not been able to contain it. “We have a large package of research to clinically characterize how the disease is manifesting in Cuba. We are characterizing how it affects the elderly, the young, and pregnant women, with specific research in pediatrics, obstetrics, among others,” she said.
As the health crisis in Cuba worsens, the communist Castro dictatorship will continue to lie to the Cuban people and the world. It’s what socialists, who will never take responsibility for their failures, always do.
It’s surely worse than they admit. It always is, but to them lying is like breathing–they cannot live without it.
