After his arbitrary arrest last week, prominent Cuban opposition leader Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet is certain the communist Castro dictatorship is dreading another massive uprising like the island-wide protests that took place on July 11, 2021. Dr. Biscet points out that his arrest, along with the arrests of other dissident leaders, indicates the regime fears it will not survive a second July 11th.
Via Marti Noticias (my translation):
Cuban opposition leader Oscar Elías Biscet denounced an arbitrary arrest that took place this week, apparently motivated by the Cuban regime’s increasing fears that another anti-government uprising, like that of July 11, 2021, might occur.
The founder of the Emilia Project told Martí Noticias that he was detained early on Monday, September 23, in Lawton, Havana, when he was about to visit the families of political prisoners in San Antonio de los Baños, the town where the largest protest against the communist regime in decades began, remembered as 11J.
The winner of the 2022 David Burke Award for Journalistic Excellence explained that he was taken to the Aguilera police station in Lawton, where he was held for more than 12 hours without any apparent reason, and was released with a fine of 150 pesos.
Shortly afterward, he learned that he had been fined for violating a surveillance perimeter, something he considers arbitrary “because there was no physical perimeter from a security point of view nor from a legal one.”
The opposition doctor referred to other detentions that took place this week, such as that of the leader of the Ladies in White, Berta Soler.
Dr. Biscet explained that on the day of his arrest, he was on his way to visit the sick and the families of political prisoners in San Antonio de los Baños, including Carlos Manuel Pupo, who had recently been released from prison due to health complications.
“Perhaps they are monitoring everything in the population of San Antonio, and maybe they find that there is discontent. This meeting with fellow opposition members could be the spark that reignites the process of freedom. And perhaps that is why they arrested me,” he explained.
The mass peaceful protests in Cuba on July 11, 2021 exposed the vulnerability of the communist Castro dictatorship, which barely survived using violence and killing protesters. They know, and the Cuban people know, they will not survive another one.
So is the Congressional Black Caucus, Obama, Kamala Harris, or the BLM people interested in Biscet? No? Then he ain’t black, now is he? Actually, he’s a non-person to the usual suspects. Move along.
