From our Seven Plagues of Castrogonia Bureau with some assistance from our Bureau of Impending Doom
Add this to the list of catastrophes currently plaguing Castrogonia. This year’s Havana International Fair — a major event that tries to lure foreign investors — was so poorly attended and generated so little interest that Castro, Inc. was forced to shut it down early. Naturally, Castro, Inc. blamed hurricane Rafael for this disaster, but the truth is that every entrepreneur on earth who follows the news can only see Castrogonia as a fast-sinking ship.
The failure of this fair is bad news for Castro, Inc., but good news for the Cuban people, at least in the long run. It’s yet another sign of impending doom for the dictatorship.
Loosely translated from Cubanos Por El Mundo
The Castro dictatorship decided this week to suspend the 40th edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV-2024), which only had a handful of attendees and no funds.
According to information shared by the regime’s propaganda outlets, the decision was made due to the passage of Hurricane Rafael through the western part of the communist island.
“The organizing committee of the 40th edition of the Havana International Fair (FIHAV-2024) decided to suspend this event due to force majeure,” read the official statement released by the dictatorship.
In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment, Oscar Pérez-Oliva Fraga, thanked the exhibitors, chamber representatives, and agencies that “promote trade” on the island.
He specified that on Monday and Tuesday, programs and organized meetings were held, and some activities were conducted with certain businesspeople, though several were canceled.
Additionally, the Castro official reported that the Expocuba fairground suffered damage to the central and number two pavilions, along with the downing of trees.
He added that water, electricity, and telecommunications services are interrupted, but the companies’ assets have been preserved, and so far, no damages to these assets have been reported.
For this reason, he stated, there are no conditions at Expocuba to continue with the Havana International Fair.
It’s important to mention that Hurricane Rafael’s passage through Cuba caused damage in the western part of the country, mainly in the province of Artemisa, where the devastation is still being assessed by the dictatorship. Similarly, over 460 building collapses were reported in Havana following the cyclone’s passage through the capital.
As I’ve said, the regime is OK with ruling over ruins and starving beggars, as long as it retains power.
