Cuban political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer savagely beaten, taken to hospital

Castro, Inc. isn’t releasing any details about the beating sustained by José Daniel Ferrer, or about the extent of his injuries, so his family and other dissidents are demanding proof of life. All anyone knows is that he was taken to a hospital in another prison, and this signals additional danger for Ferrer. Since all hospitals in Cuba are awful, one can only imagine how much worse prison hospitals must be.

If you are a praying sort of person, please pray for José Daniel and his family.

Loosely translated from ADN Cuba

The political prisoner and coordinator of the Patriotic Union of Cuba (Unpacu), José Daniel Ferrer García, was brutally beaten in Mar Verde prison in Santiago de Cuba, his family reported on social media.

According to his sister, Ana Belkis Ferrer, after the beating, the opposition leader was taken out of that prison and transferred to the hospital at Boniato prison, also in the same province.

The political prisoner’s sister confirmed to ADN Cuba that they have not received any official notification from the authorities regarding the beating or the transfer. “When there are problems, they say nothing; on the contrary, they try to hide them,” she stated.

The family is demanding proof of life for Ferrer, as they have been unable to see him. So far, no further details about the incident or the current condition of the political prisoner have been obtained due to the Cuban regime’s control over information and violations of communication rights between prisoners and their families.

Several prominent figures have spoken out about this incident involving the Unpacu leader.

In this regard, U.S. Senator Rick Scott said that “the evil and illegitimate Castro/Diaz-Canel regime is trying to kill José Daniel, and the Biden Administration must take immediate action to demand his immediate release and the release of all political prisoners unjustly imprisoned by the Cuban communist regime.”

“The Biden Administration must act. The United States must demand proof of life for Ferrer immediately. If José Daniel is killed by the Castro/Diaz-Canel regime, his death will not only be caused by their evil but also by four years of weak appeasement and Biden’s refusal to defend human rights in Cuba and protect innocent political prisoners,” Scott added.

Within Cuba, opposition figure and former political prisoner Ángel Moya also demanded proof of life for Ferrer. “Proof of life for political prisoner José Daniel Ferrer. The State Security repressors have disappeared him. The prison guards at Mar Verde beat him.”

Ferrer has been denied family visits for 19 consecutive months and has also been prohibited from making phone calls.

José Daniel Ferrer was arrested on July 11, 2021, as he was preparing to join the anti-government demonstrations that broke out that day across the country.

In August of that year, a judge revoked his house arrest and ordered his transfer to a penitentiary to serve the remaining 4 years and 14 days of the sentence imposed on him in 2020.
