Add this achievement to the long list of moral failures of the so-called “Revolution”. Women are being murdered in Cuba at such an alarming rate that Castro, Inc. is under-reporting the numbers. But social media has helped the real figures to surface, and the result of a survey on this issue puts Castrogonia near the top rank of Latin American countries in which violence against women is rampant. Vamos bien!

For the first time, Cuba has been included in the annual report on femicides in the region by the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

The latest study reports that the island recorded 60 femicides in 2023, a figure significantly lower than the 87 violent deaths of women reported by non-governmental and independent organizations—a 45% increase compared to the official data.

Cuba’s inclusion in this report marks a milestone, as until now, the Cuban government had not provided its questionable femicide data to ECLAC.

However, based on figures from the outlet 14ymedio and a female population of 5 million, the rate rises to 1.74, placing Cuba as having the third-highest femicide rate in Latin America, surpassed only by Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

The regional report highlights that in 2023, at least 3,897 women were victims of femicide in Latin America and the Caribbean, amounting to more than 11 gender-related violent deaths daily.

In Cuba, 83.3% of femicides occurred in the context of intimate partner relationships, reflecting a common trend in the region.

ECLAC also reported 488 indirect victims of femicide, 38 of them in Cuba, most of whom were children of the victims.

The Commission emphasizes the urgent need to improve data collection systems and public policies, pointing to a widening gap between the scale of the problem and the Cuban government’s responses.

So far in 2024, Cuba has recorded at least 45 femicides, with a significant increase in January and October, underscoring the persistence of this issue on the island.
