It’s happened again. A Cuban political prisoner ends up in the infirmary after being attacked. This time around, the beating was administered by a criminal prisoner under orders given to him by prison guards.
Loreto Hernández García, a Yoruba priest, is suffering from serious health problems and his family claims he is being “clinically assassinated” through medical negligence. Fittingly — as Castro, Inc. sees it — he was beaten for requesting better medical care. Don’t expect the Congressional Black Caucus in the U.S. or leaders of Black Lives Matter to denounce this incident.
Loosely translated from ADN Cuba.
Political prisoner Loreto Hernández García has been admitted to the infirmary of Guamajal prison since November 25, after being assaulted for requesting medical assistance, independent journalist Carlos Michael Morales reported to ADN Cuba.
The Yoruba religious leader experienced chest pain and hypertension, and when he demanded medical care, he was assaulted by a common inmate under the orders of the political police, according to statements from his brother, former political prisoner Jorge Luis García Pérez “Antúnez.”
“We do not know the name of the aggressor, but he has spent his entire life repressing political prisoners and has two convictions for homicide. We still don’t know the extent of the injuries,” García Pérez stated.
Following the altercation, Hernández García was taken to the infirmary, where he remains.
The political prisoner attempted to recount the incident to his daughter in a phone call on November 27, but prison authorities forced him to hang up.
“We are denouncing that he is being clinically assassinated by these Castro tyranny hordes. (…) My brother’s life is in danger,” Antúnez said in a video published on social media.
The family has issued an international SOS, demanding immediate medical attention and the release of Loreto Hernández García.
Antúnez has expressed his willingness to conduct peaceful protests, including a hunger strike in front of the Cuban embassy in Washington, to bring attention to his brother’s critical situation.
The religious leader suffers from diabetes and hypertension, conditions that have worsened during his imprisonment. In jail, he has faced a lack of medical care, irregular medication supplies, and prison conditions that deteriorate his health.
The prison authorities have denied him a conditional release, despite a medical commission previously approving it, his brother noted.
During his detention, officials have offered him prison benefits if he softens his stance toward the regime. Both he and his wife, Donaida Pérez, also a political prisoner for participating in the July 11, 2021 protests, have rejected these offers.
Amnesty International has declared Loreto Hernández and his wife, Donaida Pérez Paseiro, prisoners of conscience.
Loreto and Donaida, members of the “Free Yorubas of Cuba Association,” were sentenced to 8 and 7 years in prison, respectively, for protesting in Placetas, Villa Clara, on July 11, 2021.
Another example of an obvious “inconsistency.” The usual suspects don’t care he’s black and being abused; they only care if he can be used to advance their agenda. Since that’s not the case, he does NOT matter.
