Cuban dictatorship says it’s open to ‘dialogue’ with the incoming Trump admin, but with conditions

The communist Castro dictatorship sent out its sock puppet president to announce the Cuban regime is open to talks with the Trump administration. However, the offer from “president” Miguel Diaz-Canel comes with the exact same conditions that made all the previous attempts at dialogue fruitless.

In not so many words, the mouthpiece for the Castro regime made clear talks with the U.S. cannot include any discussions about the dictatorship’s atrocious human rights record or its iron grip on power. The Cuban dictatorship, which has not held a free and fair election in more than six decades, wants to be treated as an equal to the U.S., and is not open to any talk about changes to the totalitarian nature of the government.

Via ADN Cuba (my translation):

The leader of the Cuban regime, Miguel Díaz-Canel, said on Wednesday on a street in Lajas, Cienfuegos, that they were willing to “dialogue” with the new Donald Trump administration.

“We have nothing against the American people,” he affirmed. “We are willing to engage in dialogue on equal terms with the United States government. Without impositions, with respect, and, of course, nothing that affects our sovereignty or independence,” Díaz-Canel stated.

The dictator added that Trump’s victory “was a scenario anticipated” by Havana and that “we had been preparing for it.”

As is customary in the official discourse, the leader of the regime blamed the U.S. embargo for the island’s crisis.

The Castro dictatorship is only interested in dialogue with the U.S. that will benefit the regime and the Cuban Communist Party, not the Cuban people. They come with their hands out looking for giveaways and aren’t interested in change. It is no different from all the previous offers, which were ear candy for Democrats, but not serious or workable.

  1. It’s always the same thing, some bullshit like, we are open to dialogue but only if they US respects our sovereignty and doesn’t ask us to make any concessions. In other words, just lift the embargo, give us loans, send us tourists and don’t ever ask us to democratize one millimeter.

    • In a way, one can’t blame them. It’s not just that they’re ALL about BS, but that they’re so used to having it condoned or at least tolerated by practically everyone, when they should be total pariahs.
