He has the same name as a famous Cuban-American actor, but his life is totally different. Andy García is on the brink of death in one of Castro, Inc.’s many prisons. As has happened before with countless political prisoners who go on hunger strikes, Castro, Inc. is gleefully allowing García to die a slow, agonizing death. Murder by neglect. It’s Castro, Inc.’s preferred method of execution.
Every now and then, however, Castro, Inc. suspends such executions. In related news, José Daniel Ferrer has ended his six-day hunger strike after being informed that his family will be allowed to visit him and deliver food and medicine to him.
Loosely translated from Marti Noticias
Cuban political prisoner Andy García Lorenzo, a protester from July 11, 2021, in Santa Clara, has been on a hunger strike in prison for two weeks as of this Thursday, his family told Martí Noticias.
His mother, Tayrí Lorenzo, says she is desperate. “They don’t want him alive; they want him dead, but his mother and father are here to keep denouncing this.”
“Make it public, please. If we are arbitrarily detained, we are already making the report… He has dizziness, weakness, he continues drinking only water, and remains in the same position,” she said.
García Lorenzo began his hunger strike to demand the return of personal documents that were confiscated by authorities at La Pendiente prison.
“Let the world know that human rights are violated in Cuba, let the whole world know that they want to kill Andy,” she said.
The 27-year-old is currently in the Guamajal prison. The documents were confiscated from him at La Pendiente during a previous hunger strike.
“They tell us he is claiming some letters, some documents that were taken from him at another prison (La Pendiente) some time ago, during his previous hunger strike. He asked for them to be returned. They are my letters that I sent to him and an agenda that is important to him. They belong to him, and he has the right to claim them,” Tayrí Lorenzo recently detailed to our newsroom.
Activist Anamely Ramos, who has been denouncing the case on social media, wrote on Facebook: “Day 15 of Andy García Lorenzo’s hunger strike! What are they waiting for to do something and prevent his death?”
García Lorenzo was arrested during the anti-government protests of July 11 (11J). He was sentenced to four years of imprisonment.
His family has not stopped denouncing the case and demanding the release of political prisoners in Cuba. His sister, Roxana García, and other relatives were forced into exile due to constant threats from State Security.
