Donald Trump has given Cuban Americans and the Cuban exile community another reason to feel proud. Peter Lamelas, a Cuban American doctor and businessman, has been picked by Trump to be the next ambassador to Argentina. Recently, Lamelas met with Argentina’s president, Javier Milei, at Mar-a-Lago.

Via Cuba Headlines:

Donald Trump has appointed Peter Lamelas, a Cuban exile, physician, and entrepreneur, to serve as the next U.S. ambassador to Argentina. The announcement was made by Trump himself via Truth Social, where he highlighted Lamelas’s successful journey in America.

“Peter is an extraordinary doctor, philanthropist, and businessman, best known for founding Florida’s largest urgent care company. As a child, Peter and his family fled communist Cuba and LEGALLY immigrated to the United States, starting from scratch and achieving the American dream,” Trump wrote.

Additionally, the former president mentioned Lamelas’s previous accomplishments, including his roles on the Department of Justice’s Medal of Valor Review Board and the Florida Board of Medicine. “Congratulations Peter!” Trump added.

In response, Lamelas expressed his gratitude to Trump through a public message on X. “Mr. President, thank you for this incredible honor. The world sees it clearly: America is back because Donald J. Trump is back. Under your leadership, the relationship between the United States and Argentina will reach unprecedented greatness. MAGA,” he stated.

It’s worth noting that Lamelas recently met Argentine President Javier Milei at Mar-a-Lago, and he will need to go through a confirmation hearing in the Capitol before assuming his duties in April. In this regard, Infobae recalled that Milei announced his intention to sign a free trade agreement with the United States, and Lamelas will be involved in the bilateral negotiations.

This appointment strengthens strategic alliances between Washington and Buenos Aires, reflecting the ideological alignment between Trump and Milei. Previously, Trump appointed Senator Marco Rubio as Secretary of State, making him the Latino with the highest-ranking position in U.S. government history.

Lamelas will join Sen. Marco Rubio as another high-profile appointment of Cuban Americans in Trump’s second term. The next Trump term may very well be the most Cuban American presidency in U.S. history.
