The story’s a few days old, but I don’t think we’ve brought it to your attention yet. Thought I would post here for those of you who don’t follow this closely away from this blog.
A blogger has identified the man who sat at the table with the Swede who survived the crash that killed Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero.
Here’s my translation of the first portion of the story from Univisión.
MIAMI, Florida – The individual who accompanied the Swede Jens Aron Modig at his press conference in Cuba about the Payá case has been identified.
“Gustavo ´Tavito´ Ricardo Machín Gómez, a Coronel in the Cuban intelligence agency (DI) is the person who was seated next to Modig during his press conference,” affirmed Luis Domínguez, blogger at Cuba al Descubierto.
Modig’s press conference took place in Havana before the island’s international press last Thursday, July 20. During the press conference, with the man identified as DI Coronel Gustavo ´Tavito´ Ricardo Machín Gómez seated to his left, Modig “made like a Swede”* and said he did not know what happened because he was asleep during the accident.
*This was my translation of “se hizo el sueco” – the idiom means “to act oblivious.”
