A list of Jimmy Carter’s lies

The Real CubaCuba

The Real Cuba has compiled a list of the lies contained within Jimmy Carter’s trip report released after his visit with his “old friend” Fidel.

A list of the lies in Jimmy Carter’s report about his trip to Castro’s Cuba

I read his 1,500 words report about his trip, which is the one that is going to be quoted by all news agencies. Not one single word about free elections , respect for human rights and free speech.

In his report, he quotes EXACTLY what the Castro brothers fed him. Here are some of his quotes (in italics):

“Both privately and publicly I continued to call for the end of our economic blockade against the Cuban people”

What blockade is this guy talking about? Where are the ships blockading Cuba? The US has become one of the biggest sellers of food and other products to Cuba in the last few years; the only “blockade” is that we demand cash in advance.

“Wednesday morning we met with a group of active dissidents, bloggers, and others and then hosted 10 of the 12 recently released political prisoners and their wives, who reported that they were still insisting that those exiled to Spain be permitted to return to Cuba. They complained about their difficulty in getting renewed ID cards and drivers’ licenses.”

Bullshit! The dissidents told him that they wanted access to the Internet, free elections, respect for human rights, but he didn’t want to upset his Cuban hosts repeating what the dissidents wanted, so he lied.

“There is a fundamental incompatibility between policies of Cuba and the U.S., based on more than half a century of efforts by leaders in Washington to disrupt and bring about changes in the communist regime of Fidel and Raul Castro.”

Another lie. Carter wants to make it look as if this is a problem between the US and Cuba, exactly what the Castro brothers want. What about the 52 years of oppression and enslavement of the Cuban people? But even what he says about the problem between the US and Cuba doesn’t take into account all the facts. What what about the 52 years of anti-American policies by the Cuban dictators? Not a word about that.

“Activities or funds expended under its auspices, as expressed officially in the Act, and also assumed by Cubans, are limited to democracy promotion programs designed to weaken and overthrow the Castro regime. Such U.S. activities are authorized by U.S. law and considered a crime against the state by Cuban law”

Not Cuban law, Jimmy, Castro’s law, that he put in place in order to keep the Cuban people enslaved. The Cuban people never elected those who enacted those “laws”.

  1. Carter has effectively become a whore, and an old whore at that. Prostitution, of course, need not involve sex or money as such, but it always involves some sort of debasement or compromise of integrity on the one hand and some sort of gain, real or perceived, on the other. Castro, Inc. does not have anything remotely approaching Saudi money, apart from being a notorious deadbeat, but it can offer other rewards for suitable services, such as radical chic, “progressive” cachet, media attention and the illusion of importance or relevance. Sadly, not to mention shamefully, there have always been those willing to make such a “deal.” Carter has plenty of company, far more than someone like Vaclav Havel, even if one only considers the political arena. The so-called Latin politicians who have played along with Castro, for instance, are too numerous to count, not to mention someone like Canada’s Pierre Trudeau, who apparently left instructions for Fidel to be a pallbearer at his funeral (as he was). However, not too many have the distinction and concomitant moral responsibility of having been POTUS. The only alternative I see to Jimmy as whore is Jimmy as true believer in Castro, Inc., which is theoretically possible, but that would make him insane. Not a good choice.
