Fifth Cuban general dies mysteriously in less than 10 days

The apparent Soviet-style purge continues in communist Cuba. The mysterious death of Brigadier General Armando Choy now brings the total of Cuban generals suddenly dying to five, all within the last 10 days.

Armed Forces generals Armando Choy Rodriguez dies, the fifth high-ranking officer over just nine days

Brigadier General of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) Armando Choy Rodriguez died on Monday night. At the time of his death, he was working as the general coordinator for the Villa Clara Fighters History Group, according to a Twitter post by Marta Abreu from the Las Villas Central University.

The death of Choy Rodriguez, who was of Chinese descent, has not been officially announced in state-run media as of yet, neither has the cause of his death been revealed.

As one of the founders of the 26 of July Movement, Choy Rodriguez joined the rebel army under the command of Victor Bordon in Escambray. After the success of the Cuban revolution, he fought in the war in Angola and later worked in Cuba as director of a group in charge of the sanitation and development of Havana Bay, where he was awarded the National Environment Award.

Choy Rodriguez is the fifth general of the armed forces to die on the island since the July 11 protests. As of the moment, Cuban authorities have not provided any information regarding the cause of death on any of the officers, sparking many rumors.
