Fidel Castro’s grandson parachutes into May Day in a ‘Jump for Fidel and the Workers’ event

Only in a totalitarian hellhole would a stunt like this receive attention. Really. Who cares if Fidel’s grandson skydives at a May Day event? Naturally, this stunt is the equivalent of some European prince doing something similar on a national holiday. So, if anyone needs proof that Cuba is a monarchy and the Castros are its dynastic rulers, or that the Ministry of Truth continually engages in the deification of Fidel, look no further than this nauseating display of idolatry and privilege.

Apparently, Fidel III has made previous parachute jumps in honor of his father (who — ironically — committed suicide by jumping off a building) and murderous grandfather, knowing that the Ministry of Truth will cover the story.

Loosely translated from Periodico Cubano

Fidel Antonio Castro Smirnov, grandson of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro, carried out a parachute jump this Wednesday, in an event titled ‘Jump for Fidel and the Workers’. This act took place in the province of Ciego de Ávila and was part of the celebrations of May Day on the island.

This aerial tribute, which coincided with one of Cuba’s worst economic crises in the last six decades, was broadcast by Televisión Avileña and accompanied by twelve other young parachutists. Some have interpreted the event as another example of adoration for the communist leader’s figure during times of acute scarcity in the country.

It is worth noting that this tribute occurred in a context of criticism towards the Cuban government for what many consider an inappropriate use of state resources in activities that glorify Fidel Castro’s personality, while the population faces significant economic difficulties.

Fidel Antonio himself highlighted on the social network X that this symbolic act seeks to “erect our own monument to Fidel forever on the thresholds of his centenary”.

According to Televisión Avileña, the ceremony also aimed to honor Cuban workers, attempting to link Castro’s “historical figure” with the loyalty and respect promoted by the current generation of Cuban leaders.

Fidel Antonio is the son of Fidel Ángel Castro Díaz-Balart, who committed suicide at the age of 68 due to severe depression. Although not as controversial as his cousin Sandro Castro, he has previously carried out similar acts, such as his jump in February 2023 in Camagüey, also in honor of his grandfather.

This year’s May Day event was distinguished by its location, being held near the United States Embassy in Havana, instead of at the Plaza de la Revolución, traditionally the center of major political events in Cuba. The march was attended by key figures of the Castroist leadership, including General Raúl Castro and President Miguel Díaz-Canel.

While the regime highlights these events as acts of unity and respect towards their historical leaders, criticism on social media has not been absent, with many users pointing out the irony of these unnecessary celebrations in times when social and economic crisis is pressing. Additionally, unusual elements in the festivities, such as people parading dressed as brides and grooms, have sparked comments and analyses about the relevance and tone of these commemorations.

  1. His upbringing was bound to be both unnatural and toxic, so that he probably never developed an identity of his own. Obviously, there are DNA issues as well. It’s a combination that practically guarantees dysfunction.

  2. What a disgusting latrine country we’ve become. Cuba was always latrine [or else fidel castro wouldn’t have risen to power]. but it at least we had a facade, a smoke screen so to speak: an elegant aristocracy, a civil society that strived for middle class, a capital that was the envy of Latin America, etc… Today the facade is gone and we are PURE LATRINE. The beast’s grandson’s antics highlight how latrine we’ve sunk.
