Below I’ll be quoting from the recent Voice of America (i.e. Deep State) story on the audit and purge at the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (subsidiary of the U.S. Agency for Global Media) –but clarifying some of the issues with “By the Way”
“The U.S. government service charged with delivering objective news into Cuba produces both “bad journalism” and “ineffective propaganda,” according to an “independent” (quotation marks mine) audit released Tuesday.”
(By the way: This “independent audit” of the Office of Cuba Broadcasting (Radio and TV Marti) as operated under the Trump administration was ordered by holdover CEO of the U.S. Agency for Global Media John Lansing (an Obama appointee from 2015) as recommended by (Democrat Party luminary) Robert Menendez.)
“The U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), which oversees taxpayer-funded international broadcasting, ordered the audit of the Office of Cuban Broadcasting (OCB) in February in response to broadcasts last year that contained anti-Semitic remarks about billionaire philanthropist George Soros.”
(By the way: The “anti-semitic” remarks, as cited by the auditors themselves consist of: “(George Soros) is a multimillionaire jew …and a nonbelieving Jew of flexible morals.” )
“John Lansing, the CEO of USAGM, later apologized to Soros and launched the audit to find “any patterns of unethical, unprofessional, biased or substandard journalism” at OCB.
The results amount to a harsh indictment of practices at Office of Cuba Broadcasting, which as part of USAGM is required by law to provide objective, balanced programming that reflects a variety of viewpoints….”Instead, the five experts (italics mine) on the audit panel said the journalism (at radio and TV Marti) – is one-sided, fails to provide context and crosses into strident advocacy for hard-line Cuban dissident causes.”…“It’s not just advocacy; it’s really like an old-style kind of propaganda,” said the panel’s chairman, Edward Schumacher-Matos.”
(BTW: this “objective panel chairman” once worked as a bureau chief for The New York Times, he served as ombudsman for NPR and called for the firing of Lou Dobbs from CNN for his views on illegal immigration. Schumacher-Matos also regards: “much of (U.S.) government policy (towards Cuba) as left to overheated exiles and political charlatans, some in Congress, who seek only to punish the Castros.…the embargo should be unilaterally lifted….Congress should overturn the reclamation provision of Helms-Burton, which is unprecedented in American law.”)
” The relentless anti-Cuba advocacy “crowds out other kinds of news coverage and even advocacy journalism that might be more effective, said audit panelist Roberto Suro, former director of the Pew Hispanic Center.”
(BTW: A review of one of “objective panelist” Roberto Suro’s books published in National Review in 1998 found that: “In Suro’s view, the Cuban community is selfish, intolerant, and insular, refusing to help anyone who is not a part of the enclave–particularly Miami’s blacks. ” Roberto Suro is also a frequent traveler to totalitarian Cuba, hence he seems to have no trouble obtaining a visa from the totalitarian regime, who carefully vets all academic and journalist applicants for their political views.) The “impartial auditor”Roberto Suro also denounces Trump’s border policies as “inhumane and illegal.”)
Interestingly, two (Schumacher-Matos and Suro) of those standing in solemn judgement of Radio Marti for it’s “lack of objectivity” are frequent contributors to The New York Times (Herbert Matthews, Walter Duranty) and Washington Post (who employs (the late) Manuel “Barbaroja” Piniero’s son-in-law as “reporter”.)
Oh…and for some strange reason Cuba’s KGB-founded and mentored media is merrily reporting (applauding!) this purge at Radio and TV Marti….we can’t for the life of us imagine WHY?!
