  1. Hopefully Hollywood will leave us alone for a while now and stop using Cuban Americans to recycle “latino” stereotypes. In their view, after all, all “latinos” are gang banging East LA types and we are all completely interchangeable. That’s one of the reasons why they don’t think twice about hiring someone as distinctly un-Cuban as Jimmy Smits to do the part of a Cuban, or why it is not uncommon to hear Cuban Americans speak with East LA accents on TV programs.
Sometimes I think that they do things on purpose. I mean, Hollywood production companies are very sophisticated and they have researchers and casting agents who are well-trained. Yet, they constantly get it wrong when it comes to Cubans. Can they be that stupid or is it done on purpose? Case in point, doesn’t it seem malicious when they make a movie about Columbus High School in Coral Cables [entitled “The Substitute” with Marc Anthony] and depict the Cubans students–who in reality are more preppy than anything else– as gang banging thugs and losers?
I’ll be the first to throw dirt on this turkey [CANE] when they bury it now that its dead. What a relief!

  2. When looking up confirmation of this news I came across loads of message boards where people were outraged that it was going to be, and then ended up, cancelled! Clearly the posters were not Cuban.
