U.S. arranging more flights for Cuban ‘exile’ Yo-Yos trapped on the island

From our Bureau of Dogs Drowning In Their Own Vomit with some assistance from our resident expert on biblical wisdom

It seems the 300 Yo-Yos rescued from Castrogonia in April were only the tip of a large iceberg, so to speak.

The U.S. embassy in Havana continues to receive rescue requests from Yo-Yos who are still stuck in Castrogonia.

Since these morally bankrupt Yo-Yos are all U.S. citizens or permanent residents, the U.S. feels legally obligated to help them.

One might argue that any “exiles” who return to the country from which they fled are automatically admitting that they are not really exiles –especially if they travel there regularly knowing that their visits provide an economic lifeline to the dictatorship they ostensibly fear and loathe.

One might also argue that such hypocrites don’t really deserve to be rescued by the country to which they fled, and that their residency status and citizenship should be revoked.

Such arguments, while reasonable, will make no sense to Yo-Yos, of course. They’re not called Yo-Yos for nothing…….Let’s not ignore the fact that many or most of them flew to Castrogonia with their eyes wide open while the coronavirus plague was infecting the whole world.

As the Good Book says (Proverbs 27:22): “Though you grind a fool in a mortar, grinding them like grain with a pestle, you will not remove their folly from them.”

Or, as best summed up by Rudyard Kipling in his riff on Proverbs 26:11 and 2 Peter 2:22:

“As it will be in the future, it was at the birth of Man
There are only four things certain since Social Progress began.
That the Dog returns to his Vomit and the Sow returns to her Mire,
And the burnt Fool’s bandaged finger goes wobbling back to the Fire; ”

Travelers wait to check in for charter flights from Miami to Havana at Miami International Airport.

From the U.S. Embassy in Havana:

The U.S. Embassy is currently working with U.S. airlines in efforts to arrange additional humanitarian repatriation flights for U.S. Citizens.

On May 1, 2020, the Cuban Government extended the closure of the airport until at least May 31st. The U.S. Embassy will provide updates on the airport operating status as information becomes available.

As a result, the U.S. government is working with the Cuban government and U.S. airlines to arrange additional humanitarian repatriation flights for U.S. citizens and eligible Cuban Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) who remain in Cuba. However, due to spacing restrictions, we are not able to accommodate all requests, and individuals that cannot be provided seats on these flights must continue to remain in Cuba until airport re-opens and airlines can return.

Top priority on any upcoming flights will be given to U.S. citizens deemed at higher risk of severe illness, followed by U.S. citizen minors and their U.S. citizen parents, or one foreign national parent, followed by all other U.S. citizens. Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) do not qualify for a higher priority and will receive available seats on a first-come, first-served basis.

  1. As I’ve said, José Martí himself would get nowhere with this crowd. Esto no tiene remedio.

We’re talking taking kids to Cuba in March. I’m sorry, but people that stupid or that irresponsible don’t deserve bailing out–especially since they know perfectly well what Cuba’s reality is.
