JetBlue abruptly suspends flights to communist Cuba, cites lack of demand

If you want to enjoy an apartheid vacation in Cuba to prolong the suffering of the Cuban people, you’ll have to find another airline that isn’t JetBlue to get there. On Thursday, JetBlue, the first American airline to start service from the U.S. to communist Cuba, announced it was suspending all flights to the island due to the lack of demand.

Via Miami’s CBS4:

JetBlue announced Thursday that it will suspend all routes to Cuba with the final day of service being?September 17, 2023.

In 2016, JetBlue made history by becoming the first?U.S.?airline to operate a commercial flight between the two countries in more than 50 years.

“Demand for travel to the island has been significantly affected by changes to the regulatory landscape and restrictions on our customers’ ability to enter Cuba. We look forward to resuming our service to Havana and continuing to pursue opportunities within Cuba should travel become more accessible in the future,” airline officials said.

JetBlue is blaming U.S. restrictions for their decision, despite the fact that the Biden administration has loosened restrictions over the past two years. This is an obvious attempt by JetBlue to appease the totalitarian Castro dictatorship and keep its options open with the brutally oppressive regime by not bringing up the fact that tourism to Cuba as a whole has plummeted.

The reality is that apartheid tourism to Cuba was decimated by COVID and has not been able to recover. This is evidenced by the fact that European airlines not subject to any U.S. travel restrictions, such as Spain-based Iberostar, are also cutting back on their flights to Cuba due to the lack of demand (via East Africa News Post):

Some airlines in Spain have reported that they will reduce and close flights to Cuba due to low ticket sales. Among these airlines is Iberojet, which will cease operations between the Spanish capital and Santiago in eastern Cuba.

This company opened offices in the largest Antilles in 2021. The first route to the second most important Cuban province took place in November of the previous year.

The official of the Spanish agency Cuba to Like, Yosefani Guerra, commented that the final maneuver of the Iberojet to Santiago will take place on September 29. Mr Guerra said the Iberojet authorities had justified the decision to cancel on “operational grounds”.

While it enjoyed a lot of popularity in years past, it appears interest in apartheid tourism to Cuba has waned. We can only hope this trend continues for the sake of the Cuban people.

  1. You know, we’ve been over this before, but that damn “Che” cake was a screaming obscenity, and whoever was responsible for its design deserves profound contempt. I cannot believe it was mere cluelessness.
