According to EU human rights envoy Eamon Gilmore, Castro, Inc. steadfastly claims that there are zero political prisoners in its dungeons.

Yes, you betcha. All of those imprisoned for protesting on July 11, 2021, are common criminals who pose a severe threat to Cuban society. And all of them are being treated very well by prison authorities.

So, keep repeating this mantra over and over: There are no political prisoners in Cuba, there are no political prisoners in Cuba, there are no political prisoners in Cuba . . . After a while, you will believe this to be true.

Loosely translated from Diario de Cuba

Testimonies from relatives of political prisoners and members of civil society confirm what many Cubans doubted, given the lack of photos and publications: the representative of the European Union (EU) for human rights, Eamon Gilmore, met with loved ones of several prisoners and with activists.

“He told us that he had met with the authorities, with the Prosecutor’s Office, with the Supreme Court, with the Council of State, always advocating for political prisoners,” Yinda Elizastigui, who this Saturday went on strike, told DIARIO DE CUBA. hunger to demand the release of his son Luis Robles.

The young man was sentenced to five years in prison for peacefully calling for an end to repression in Cuba with a sign on the street.

His mother said she felt “completely distressed” by what the EU human rights representative told them.

The regime’s response to Gilmore’s questions was to deny that any Cuban was imprisoned for political reasons.

“They told him that these people were imprisoned, but not for political reasons, that they had all the medical attention they needed and that they had never been mistreated. Lies, lies and lies,” said Elizastigui.

  1. The question us not what the dictatorship claims, since it always claims whatever suits it, but what Gilmore should know to be the truth, which it is his job to know. Sounds like he’s just washing his hands. Figures.

Well, I suppose he’s less distasteful than la Mogherini, but apparently that’s not a substantial difference.

And by the way, the official denial of what everyone knows to be the truth, which amounts to LYING, should automatically mean Cuba has formally failed the inspection. Alas, it means nothing, and the game goes on.

  2. Whenever a supposed inspector sent to Cuba is any kind of socialist, you know the game is rigged. Of course, the usual suspects know we know, but they don’t care because we can’t do much about it.
