Heavy rains flood Havana, cause building to collapse

From our Bureau of Socialist Building Maintenance with some assistance from our Bureau of Socialist Social Justice

The two bureaus responsible for bringing you this story have little to say about it other than the fact that their names spell out the ultimate cause of this building collapse: nearly 64 years, 11 months, and 13 days of socialism. So, no, don’t blame the rain that flooded some Havana streets. Blame socialism.

Abridged and loosely translated from CiberCuba

The intense rains associated with the entry of a cold front in the Cuban capital caused the partial collapse of a building located in Central Havana.

The accident, which occurred in the early morning hours, left no people injured. According to the Municipal Assembly of Popular Power in Central Havana, those affected “were transferred to a protection center.”

The property, located on the corner of San Lázaro and Perseverancia streets, had already been the subject of a complaint from a neighbor who protested against its poor state of conservation and structural problems.

A neighbor posted a video on X and said: “As you see, both buildings are deteriorated. One of them had its walls removed twenty-odd years ago and it’s still there, propped up. The other one, where I live, is the same, destroyed. It is collapsing and we are waiting for it to collapse,” said the complainant in mid-October.

Walking down San Lázaro Street is a “high-risk sport” in Havana, several Cubans said on social networks in mid-May. The buildings located on this busy road are in poor construction condition and have frequent collapses.

“While some do business and earn millions from hunger, others have the little they have collapse. This is the authentic Cuba, which according to some businessmen and economists is ‘suitable’ because it is a captive market,” denounced journalist Mario J. Pentón on his social networks.

  1. Carlos, I see the rain falling in Cuba being little bombs falling from heaven trying to wash the filth of communism off of Cuban society. Another direct hit and one more building down.
