300 Russian tourists stage massive protest at Cuban airport

Angry Russians at Cayo Coco airport

Talk about customer dissatisfaction! Once again, Castro, Inc. has failed to please some of its Russian tourists. This time around it wasn’t the bad food or the thieving hotel staff that upset them, but the fact that their flight back home was delayed due to a lack of fuel at the airport and the additional insulting fact that they were treated like Cubans rather than as superior beings. Yes, they kept waiting for their flight . . . and waiting and waiting . . . and received zero information from airport staff about what was happening or what to expect. And, on top of it, they were not provided with water while they waited. Uh, oh. Castro, Inc. is headed for big trouble if they keep treating Russians as if they were Cubans.

Apparently, Russian tourists are not as sheepish as Canadians or Western Europeans, who routinely experience disappointments in Cuba without complaining. They only complain when they get back home, and contact a local news outlet or sue their local travel agencies. Has anyone ever heard of 300 Canadians, Germans, or Brits staging a mass protest at a Cuban airport.? No, of course not. Russkies are different. Get ready for more mayhem . . . this situation is bound to get worse.

Loosely translated from Diario de Cuba

More than 300 Russian tourists organized a protest on Thursday at the Cayo Coco airport, in the northern keys of Cuba, after the Nordwind Airlines flight that was to take them from that destination to Moscow was delayed until Friday.

According to several Russian media, which broadcast a video of the demonstration, the flight to Sheremetyevo airport that was scheduled for February 8 at 6:00 PM, Cuba time, departed on Friday and arrived this Saturday at 9:30AM Moscow time.

According to the Russian media Bel, a family of six residing in Belgorod told that media that the passengers “were not given water for a long time and were not informed what was happening.”

“At 3:00AM we checked into a hotel, and at 7:00AM they told me to get on the bus. There is a moment of rebellion in the video,” complained a tourist, whose identity was not revealed.

In the video, published by several Russian websites and broadcast on Telegram channels, dozens of travelers are seen in the waiting room of the air terminal clapping their hands and shouting and whistling.

According to the media itself, the press secretary of the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency, Artyom Korenyako, wrote on his Telegram channel that the flight was delayed “due to the breakdown of a tanker transporting fuel to the Cuban airport on the day of the departure of flight N4 552 Cayo Coco – Moscow”.

The tourist site Tourdom indicated that Nordwind’s press service stated that the reason for the delay was that “there was not enough fuel at the Cuban airport to refuel the aircraft.”

  1. These tourists know Castro, Inc. must tread very lightly with them, so they’re free to act up. Canadians are not in the same position, and they’re also much more bovine.
