Add another one to the growing list of top dogs forced out of office by Castro, Inc. This time, the purged oligarch was not “liberated” from his duties; instead he was obviously forced to resign and to apologize for mistakes he had made. God only knows what he did to irritate the military junta.

The Governor of Cienfuegos, Alexandre Corona Quintero, resigned from his position this Wednesday allegedly “acknowledging errors committed in the exercise of his responsibility.”

According to the Cuban state media, the official reportedly submitted his resignation to the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, citing “errors” in his management, of which no details were provided.

A press release states that Díaz-Canel, “exercising the powers conferred upon him, approved the termination of his functions, informing the Provincial Council of this decision, and through the presidents of the municipal assemblies of the People’s Power, to the delegates.”

The duties of Corona Quintero will be assumed by Yolexis Rodríguez Armada, the provincial vice-governor, until a new Governor is elected, as explained by the local newspaper 5 de Septiembre.

In recent weeks, several high-ranking officials of the Cuban regime as well as provincial officials have been removed from their positions amid the acute political and economic crisis facing the country, following the announcement of an unpopular package of economic measures in January.

The cadre movements began on February 2 with the dismissal of Alejandro Gil Fernández as the Cuban Minister of Economy and Planning.

This was followed by other ministers and provincial government heads.

Corona Quintero graduated in 1995 from the Higher Institute of the MININT in Villa Clara and began his professional life as an officer in that institution.

In 2006, he was promoted to the position of Vice President of the Provincial Administration Council of the People’s Power in Cienfuegos, and since 2008, he has been elected Vice President of the Provincial Assembly of the People’s Power in that territory.

In 2020, Díaz-Canel appointed him as a deputy to the National Assembly of the People’s Power when he was serving as provincial governor for the Cienfuegos municipality of Abreu.
