Brothers to the Rescue 20th Anniversary Commemorations in South Florida

Twenty years later, their murderers are still at large.

And the monster who laughed at their deaths is being showered with gifts and accolades by the leaders of the so-called free world, including the current occupant of the White House.

Plus, that wizened laughing monster makes the pope smile.

South Floridians, please take note:

BROTHERS TO THE RESCUE 20TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION

Brothers to the Rescue invite the public to join them as they commemorate the 20th anniversary of the shoot down of the Brothers to the Rescue aircraft on February 24, 1996. At that time, three American citizens—Armando Alejandre, Jr., Carlos Costa, and Mario de la Peña—as well as one American resident, Pablo Morales, were on a routine humanitarian mission over international waters when Cuban MiGs shot down their aircraft. We will be remembering and honoring these heroes as follows:

WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 24, 2016

Two commemorative ceremonies:

At 11:00 a.m. at the Brothers to the Rescue Monument

Opa-locka International Airport, 14201 NW 42 Avenue, Opa-locka, FL 33054

At 8:00 p.m. with a Mass celebrated at the Shrine of our Lady of Charity, La Ermita de la Caridad,  3609 South Miami Avenue,  Miami, FL 33133

Also, in commemoration of the 20th anniversary, the story of Brothers to the Rescue has been released in Spanish: “Seagull One: La verdadera y asombrosa historia de los Hermanos al Rescate” by Lily Prellezo.

  1. Regardless of what Pope Francis thinks he’s doing or why, it is truly astounding that someone in his position would repeatedly and very publicly conduct himself the way he does in this photo, which is only one of many, MANY similar photos disseminated worldwide. I mean, being politically “pragmatic,” calculating or cunning is one thing, and Lord knows many popes were hardly holy, but there’s also such a thing as discretion, propriety or keeping up appearances, if only for the sake of image, reputation and dignity.

How could a pope be so flagrantly, scandalously inappropriate as a matter of course, to put it relatively mildly? Either it’s knowing and deliberate behavior or he simply doesn’t see anything wrong with it, and I expect it’s the latter. That’s better than the former, I suppose, but the effects are the same–doing wrong with good intentions is still doing wrong, still harmful, still destructive. Actually, self-righteousness, as opposed to true righteousness, is or can be all the more dangerous and noxious because it is convinced of its own spurious rectitude and justification. It is related to fanaticism, which is notoriously averse to reason or wisdom. This pope is very, VERY dubious, and I’m afraid his fruits will not be good and may, in fact, prove very bad indeed.

  2. The French king Henri IV, who was raised a Protestant but adopted Catholicism as a political expedient, reportedly said that “Paris is well worth a mass.” Evidently, Pope Francis thinks that publicly smiling at, schmoozing with, and petting serious evil is well worth…something. I wonder what. Lord have mercy.
